Osteopathy & Infants

All newborn babies experience a degree of trauma during the birthing process due to the contractile pressures exerted during labour. Difficult labours, inducements and forceps deliveries may cause further trauma to the newborn. This can result in soft tissue tension and misalignment of the cranial bones of the skull and/or other areas of the musculoskeletal system of the newborn.

Gentle osteopathic treatment of the newborn can help to correct any tension or misalignments present which can potentially cause further problems later in life.

Osteopathic treatment can also assist in the management of:

  • Colic
  • Reflux
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Strains or injuries sustained during the birthing process
  • Difficulty in turning head to both sides
  • Persistent vomiting
  • Rolling to one side only
  • Ear infections
  • Incessant crying
